About the Book(s): A biography of one of Britain’s most celebrated Prime Ministers, published shortly after his death by this historical writer who like his subject also converted from Judaism to Anglicanism. Disraeli is of course famous for his part in forming the modern Tory party, particularly its ‘one-nation’ philosophy, which is still a part of its modern identity. He was Britain’s first and only politician of Jewish birth, though he became an Anglican at the age of twelve. In this Alexander Charles Ewald had a natural sympathy with the great man, for he too converted to Christianity having been born into a Jewish family. This edition presents the two volumes of Ewald’s works divided into 5 parts. Each part has 5 plates prefixed to the main text, as well as a frontispiece. Each plate carries the portrait of a significant figure within the story of Disraeli’s life. Each portrait is engraved. The volumes are presented in the original leather bindings, with attractive gilt motifs to the front boards.
