Erna Scharff (American, 1895-1982). Oil on canvas of a farmhouse with a pond in springtime. In gilt wooden frame with flecks of white. Signed in lower left “Scharff”. Erna S. Scharff was born Erna Kuhn in Landau Germany on September 9, 1895 and died in Brooklyn, New York on March 1, 1982. She fled Nazi Germany and came to the United States in 1938/1939 with her husband Alfred (1890-1969) and her son Richard (1926-2005). According to a business card her studio was listed in Brooklyn, New York. She was known primarily for oil landscapes in a very Germanic style. MEASUREMENTS: 35-1/2″ x 23-1/2″. Overall with frame: 41-3/4″ x 29-3/4″.
