Large Rare Antique 19th Century Pilot House Eagle

Rare Pilot House Eagle Crafted of cast metal with gold paint decorated surface. Circa 1850. Cast full bodied eagle with head slightly turned, wings spread, perched on a half sphere. Mounted on a contemporary stepped mahogany base. Eagle measures 17″ x 29″ x 13″. Total height with stand is almost 2 feet.  This cast eagle shows very well, having developed a nice patinated weathered look.

Total height with stand is almost 2 feet.  This cast eagle shows very well, having developed a nice patinated weathered look.  From the Pilot House of a 19th Century Riverboat or Steamer Ship.  Eagles were the common carving found on the tops of steamboat pilot houses.  In Excellent Condition for age and use.
