Description
Additional information
  • Gaylord Soli (1939-present) was born on a farm in North Dakota after his parents immigrated from Oslo, Norway, Gaylord Soli at the age of three relocated to Los Angeles, California and it has been his home ever since. He currently works in his studio daily in Orange County. He has always had a love of open spaces and that has never left him.

His earlier years were spent on adventures around the globe. He went on camera safaris to the Kalahari Desert of Africa, did anthropological research on the native tribes of The Amazon River, studies of Mayan Ruins of Chitchen Itza in the Yukatan Peninsula, and the Ancient World of Alexander The Great, from Syria to Mongolia. His travels and experiences have greatly influenced his paintings. Gaylord has said “I have been fortunate to have traveled the world extensively. This has allowed me to explore and experience primitive cultures. I think my art reflects these experiences.” His work has an immense impact and a unique sensuousness that is full of primitive mystery.

As a self-taught artist, Gaylord has had many diverse life experiences. He created a company designing sports apparel, has pinstriped antique cars and created fashions for Blackwell and other designers. Eventually, he began to work in the field of Serigraphy, and in the early eighties he founded Clearwater Publishing. He became known for producing high quality prints for a number of artists, such as Richard Diebenkorn, Mel Ramos, and Peter Max. Gaylord’s work is ingrained with a feeling of independence and improvisation in both image and technique.

Soli’s original paintings generally sell for between 5k – 10k, although pieces have sold for much more in large auction houses.
