An antique copy of Etching and Etchers and a three volume set of Painters and Their Works: A Dictionary Of Great Artists Who Are Not Now Alive Giving Their Names, Lives, and the Prices Paid For Their Works At Auction. Written by Philip Gilbert Hamerton is the volume Etching & Etchers (Roberts Brothers, Boston, 1888). The volume features twelve plates copied by the author. Each plate is guarded with a red titled page with explanatory text. Two plates are after Rembrandts’ works with single plates after Adriaen Von Ostade, Franz Edmund Weirotter, Jacques Callot, Turner, and others. The book has a gilt decorated front cover. The three volumes of Painters And Their Works were written by Ralph N. James (L. Upcott Gill, London, 1897). This set features an interesting look at the prices paid for art in the late 1800s by artists from Aalst to Zyl. The volumes are bound in maroon cloth and paper covered boards with gilt lettering to the spines and front covers.
