U.S. Springfield Model 1866 Allin Trap Door Conversion .50 Cal. Rifle
Allin trap door conversion of Springfield Model 1863 rifle. Full length 32 1/2″ barrel with excellent bore. .50 caliber.
Antique 19th Century Allin trap door conversion of Springfield Model 1863 rifle. Full length 32 1/2″ barrel with excellent bore. .50 caliber. Approximately 25,000 .58 caliber Springfield Model 1863 rifled muskets were converted by Springfield Armory for use by U.S. troops, the barrels being relined and rifled to .50 caliber and the trapdoor breech system affixed. The lock plate is dated 1864 and the breech is dated 1866. This gun has been been nickel plated and polished for parade use. The markings are still nice. Action is crisp and the stock is nice and retains a visible cartouche. A nice example of this rifle and it is most unusual that it has been plated for parade use. Antique, Excellent
